ARTIST COMMENT:            Hoping to avoid annihilation, the Native Americans appeal to the Great Spirit with the Ghost Dance.  Prelude to this final exodus were the broken treaties, the murder by white settlers and the merciless pursuit by the U.S. Army (see AS LONG AS THE GRASS GROWS).
